A Classic – Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

Florence and Northanger Abbey

I chose to read a classic novel next and what better than a Jane Austen?! I studied this particular novel many years ago at school so knew the main story. The characters themselves are really well written and invoked feelings of dislike and incredulation. I liked the way that Austen as the author spoke to me as the reader. It made me feel more involved with the story. I also enjoyed reading generally about people and places from a late 18th century point of view.

On the other hand, some of the smaller details were lost as some of the conversations that the characters had were quite long winded and ‘of the time’ so I had trouble keeping up with what they were talking about. Hopefully I didn’t miss too much!

Overall a good read.
