A modern day retelling of Emma by Jane Austen. Emma finishes University and needs to find something to occupy her time. She turns to matchmaking. Throughout the book she gets things wrong, but it is these events that make her grow as a person.

💭THOUGHTS💭

I love a Jane Austen retelling and have started reading The Austen Project series. I was excited to read the retelling of Emma by Alexander McCall Smith, but was sadly disappointed. It was long and drawn out and yet at the same time it missed out important events that were integral to the comedy and romance of the original novel. The book kept going off on a tangent and my interest was lost. It was double the length of the original yet covered less ground. I really struggled to get to the end of it. I decided that I needed to finish it because otherwise I wouldn’t feel qualified to give a review. I also secretly hoped that it would get better. It didn’t. I do not recommend reading this particular book in The Austen Project.
