The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy By Douglas Adams

Florence and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Available at the library.

Earth is destroyed and Earthman Arthur Dent is taken on a journey by a friend (who happens to be from a different planet and is coincidentally writing The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) which opens his eyes and answers questions he didn’t know he had. Strange ceatures are met and incredible sights are seen.

This month one of my genre goals was sci-fi. It’s not a genre I’ve ever been particularly interested in so I thought that I would give it a go now.

This particular book has been on my ‘to read’ list for a long time. I saw the film years ago and enjoyed it, but I have never got round to reading the book. I was prepared to have to work on the language of the book, but it didn’t take me as long to get into it as I thought it would. Some parts were a bit out there and the words used were obscure and imaginative. This slowed down the reading of the book and sometimes I had to re read bits to make sure that I understood what was going on.

In terms of rating it, it was pretty tricky. I toyed between 3 and 4 stars and ended up on 4 stars because once you get used to the language you appreciate the content. I also found it quite amusing in places which helped to cement the 4 star rating.

The characters and settings are strange but enjoyable to read about. It is definitely a unique read. I’m not sure that I would read it again and I’m not desperate to read the rest of the books in the series straight away, but it was a fairly enjoyable book at the time.

⭐RATED 4/5⭐
