The time has come for Lady Emily to marry. Her father has died and left her eldest brother, Roderick, as her Guardian. Roderick has taken it upon himself to find her a husband with the help of his three brothers. Emily is appalled by this decision and refuses to allow her brothers to dictate to her who she should marry.
As time goes on though maybe her brothers’ choice isn’t such a bad option after all, and after a lot of misunderstandings and emotional turmoil will there be a happily ever after?
After reading a thriller novel, a fantasy novel and a rom com/murder mystery novel, I needed to tick off historical fiction from my genre goals list. I decided to have a look through my kindle to see if there were any free books fitting this genre and I found this one. My hopes weren’t overly high as I thought it would be another ball based drama, however it was written in an engaging way that had me gripped from the beginning and kept my interest throughout. I couldn’t put it down as I really wanted to find out what was going to happen next! The characters were well written and you really felt for the two that were meant to be together.
I also loved the War and Espionage angle. That was something that I hadn’t read before in this type of historical fiction/romance novel. It was a shame that there weren’t more details regarding the War and Espionage element. It was merely dropped here and there with no real detailing behind it.
Overall it definitely exceeded my expectations and if historical fiction/ romance is your thing then I highly recommend this book.
