Now on TV – Pandemic Reading List 2020 – A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

I was recommended this series by a friend back in 2018 and bought this first book for 99p on Kindle to give it a go (it is also available at the library).

Everything about it should have made for an excellent read and so I made an eager start on it. Whilst it was good in short bursts, it didn’t keep my interest for long and in the end I forgot about it. It wasn’t until last year that I made myself sit and read it a) to say that I had finished it and b)in preparation for the television series.

I was disappointed because it’s usually the sort of story that holds my interest and makes me excited to read more, so I’m not quite sure what happened. The characters are good and their adventures are exciting so maybe it was just the style of writing that didn’t grip me.

Whilst it was an average read for me, I do want to finish the series of books. I have enjoyed watching the TV adaptation so far so also want to finish the books before I see the next series!
