First Line Friday

I was having a look to see what other blogs were doing for Friday, and I came across First Line Friday at Readerandom : https://readerandom.com/2021/09/24/first-lines-fridays-8/, hosted by Wandering Words: http://emmairl.co.uk/ :

What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?  Here are the rules:

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR pile) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

If you’re using Twitter, don’t forget to use #FirstLinesFridays!

So here is my first line:

In the corner of a first-class smoking carriage, Mr Justice Wargrave, lately retired from the bench, puffed at a cigar and ran an interested eye through the political news in The Times.

And the next two lines:

He laid the paper down and glanced out of the window. They were running now through Somerset.

Any Ideas?

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie!

Did anyone guess it correctly? It seems pretty mundane for what ends up being a murder mystery!
