📖PLOT SUMMARY📖
It’s the second book in the series and we carry on from the ‘safety’ of Christine’s apartment. The group decides that they have taken enough time out to train and for the weather to be more appropriate for travel, so they now need to get Liam’s diary to the Research Centre in Chicago. This book documents the journey to the Research Centre.
💭THOUGHTS💭
I was asked if I wanted to read and review the first book in the Dead Soil series a few months ago, which I agreed to (Dead Soil review here). I then heard that the third book was due out, so I treated myself to a hardback copy of this second book so that I could get up to date and read the third one. I enjoyed the first one and so had high expectations for this second one!
I enjoyed being back with the characters and was looking forward to the next part of their journey. The previous book had been tense and you were constantly worried for the characters survival and this one was no different. I don’t think there was quite as much going on in the beginning as the previous one (because the virus at this point is now well established and groups have been formed), however I was soon taken out of my comfort zone and things began to happen.
It was tense and sad in places, but without both of these things the story wouldn’t be as good as it was. What I liked was that even though there was a lot of sadness there was also hope and that kept me going to the end of the book.
The book was well written in that I really felt for the characters, their situation and (unfortunately!) could imagine myself being in the settings. Just when you got comfortable with what was happening to the characters and there seemed to be relative safety, something happened to keep you on your toes!
Overall an enjoyable read and I can’t wait to read the next book!
