Book Review – Pippa’s Cornish Dream by Debbie Johnson

Since Pippa Harte was forced to take over her parent’s farm, she’s barely had time to shave her legs let alone make time for love. Now she’s more likely to be getting down and dirty mucking out the pigs – and avoiding those of the human male variety.

When Ben Retallick walks out of her childhood and back into her present it seems that perhaps Pippa has more time than she thought. All Poldark smoulders and easy-going charm, Ben’s definitely worth whipping her wellies off for!

But Ben is a man with his own past and his own issues – and as much as she’s enjoying having him around, she’s got to get a grip. After all life isn’t always a beach … even if you are in Cornwall.

Set on the gorgeous Cornish coast at the height of summer, this is the perfect romance to take on your hols!

I wanted to find a light book that would fit my genre goals for February and immediately thought that I would look to see what other books Debbie Johnson had written. I have enjoyed some of her Christmas books, so had high hopes for her other ones. Whilst this book has a summer theme to it, I thought that I would overlook this and read it anyway! I am glad that I did as it was an excellent book.

I enjoy the way that Debbie writes as it is light and humorous, yet at the same time deals with serious issues. This book is ideal for Valentine’s Day and any other day that you fancy reading a romance! I was gripped from the beginning and wanted to know if there would be a happy ending!

The chapters were fairly long, which meant that you got a good chunk of the story before moving on. There was a good pace to the story, with all sorts of things happening. You were never bored and constantly wondering what could possibly happen next.

The characters were great. I loved the main character Pippa. She was such a strong female lead which I enjoyed and admired. The children added that extra element of uncertainty together with the social services in the background. The male lead Ben was also an interesting character and it was nice to see him build his life again after what happened to him – he was an ethical dilemma!

Lastly the settings. The story was set in a rural area in a farmhouse which was lovely. The close proximity to the village and the sea was nice to read about and gave that feeling of escapism. The farm animal element was fun to read about and added to the humour of the book.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I can highly recommend it to anyone wanting a light, easy, romantic read.
