WWW Wednesday – Currently Reading, Finished Reading, Reading Next

It’s W W W Wednesday! Hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words, here are my 3 Ws (Currently Reading, Just Finished Reading and Future Reading):

What I am currently reading:

The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill (click for link to Goodreads)

Book Description From Goodreads:

In every person’s story, there is something to hide…

The ornate reading room at the Boston Public Library is quiet, until the tranquility is shattered by a woman’s terrified scream. Security guards take charge immediately, instructing everyone inside to stay put until the threat is identified and contained. While they wait for the all-clear, four strangers, who’d happened to sit at the same table, pass the time in conversation and friendships are struck. Each has his or her own reasons for being in the reading room that morning—it just happens that one is a murderer.

Award-winning author Sulari Gentill delivers a sharply thrilling read with The Woman in the Library, an unexpectedly twisty literary adventure that examines the complicated nature of friendship and shows us that words can be the most treacherous weapons of all.”

I am on the Blog Tour for this book on 20 September so keep an eye out for my review on here, Goodreads, Amazon, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!

If It Looks Like A Duck by Frank Malley

Book Description From Amazon:

“A dead body. A suicide note. A man called Crime. Enter a stubborn reporter who’s certain not all’s what it seems.

“If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, well …”

When the body of landlord Roger Mansell is found in the River Lex, and a note uncovered on his boat, police say suicide.

Jaz Sharkey, a tenacious reporter on a failing newspaper, thinks murder. Her suspicions fence a bunch of regulars from the charming village pub. Identical twins, the psychotic ex of Jaz’s bold sidekick, Trish Parker, and a man called Crime.

As Jaz and Trish look for clues and editor Dan Armitage fights to keep his paper afloat, things turn sinister.

Quirky and funny, but with all the pace, twists, and adventure of a mystery. Join the hunt.”

This is my Author Request book. I am enjoying it so far. I usually would have finished it by now, but with my reading evenings being short due to going out and then having headaches, my reading has suffered!

American Royals by Katharine McGee (click for link to Goodreads)

Book Description From Goodreads:

What if America had a royal family?

When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne.

As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America’s first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling.

Nobody cares about the spare except when she’s breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn’t care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her.

And then there’s Samantha’s twin, Prince Jefferson. If he’d been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.”

Again I am not as far through as I would like to be, but I am really enjoying it. I always look forward to picking it back up in the evening!

Someone in Time by Jonathan Strahan (click for link to Goodreads)

Book Description From Goodreads:

Even time travel can’t unravel love

Time-travel is a way for writers to play with history and imagine different futures – for better, or worse.

When romance is thrown into the mix, time-travel becomes a passionate tool, or heart-breaking weapon. A time agent in the 22nd century puts their whole mission at risk when they fall in love with the wrong person. No matter which part of history a man visits, he cannot not escape his ex. A woman is desperately in love with the time-space continuum, but it doesn’t love her back. As time passes and falls apart, a time-traveller must say goodbye to their soulmate.

With stories from best-selling and award-winning authors such as Seanan McGuire, Alix E. Harrow and Nina Allan, this anthology gives a taste for the rich treasure trove of stories we can imagine with love, loss and reunion across time and space.

Including stories by: Alix E. Harrow, Zen Cho, Seanan McGuire, Sarah Gailey, Jeffrey Ford, Nina Allan, Elizabeth Hand, Lavanya Lakshminarayan, Catherynne M. Valente, Sam J. Miller, Rowan Coleman, Margo Lanagan, Sameem Siddiqui, Theodora Goss, Carrie Vaughn, Ellen Klages

This is my current library book. I am just about to start reading it as part of my Sci Fi genre goal for this month.

What I have finished reading:

NONE THIS WEEK. I am hoping that I will by next week with my son properly starting school. It has been a busy time!

What I am reading next:

It is a fascinating read. I think that I like it, but it is a style that I have never read before. So far it is basically letters going to and from two authors, with one who is obviously more famous and well known. The other (not famous) author has volunteered to read the famous author’s current work and to help out where they can. The Woman in the Library is then the story that the well known author is currently writing and sending across a chapter at a time. I am not sure if that makes sense! It is hard to explain, but makes sense when you see the book!

Yes. It is a unique read so far. I was trying to explain it but I am not sure how well I did!

It is set out as letters between two authors and one author has said that they will read the other’s current work. That author is sending it over chapter by chapter, so you have a chapter which is the letter between the authors then a chapter of the story – alternating.
