Top Ten Tuesday – Favourite Bookstores OR Bookstores I’d Love to Visit

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week it is Favourite Bookstores OR Bookstores I’d Love to Visit.

Here in the UK the main chain of bookshops is Waterstones. I like to go in to them if there are any near to where I am visiting. The two Waterstones that I usually frequent are Maidstone Town Centre and Bluewater Shopping Centre.

There are a few bookshops that I would like to visit in London. There is a whole street dedicated to Antiques, Bookshops and Art – Cecil Court (click for link to website) – that I would like to go to.

Other bookshops in London that I would like to visit are Waterstones in Piccadily (the biggest bookshop in Europe), Hatchards in Piccadily (click for link to website) and Daunt Books in Marylebone (click for link to website). I am sure that there are many more but…

Other bookshops in the UK I would like to visit are Leakey’s Bookshop in Inverness, Scotland (click for link to website), Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights (Bath) (click for link to website), Richard Booth’s Bookshop (Hay-on-Wye) (click for link to website) and Waterstones Bradford (click for link to website).

Outside of the UK I would like to visit Livraria Lello in Portugal (click for link to website), Cărturești Carusel, Bucharest, Romania (click for link to website), Boekhandel Dominicanen, Maastricht, Netherlands (click for link to website) and any Barnes and Noble store in America.

In Summary:

1. Cecil Court (click for link to website)

2. Waterstones in Piccadily

3. Hatchards in Piccadily (click for link to website)

4. Daunt Books in Marylebone (click for link to website)

5. Leakey’s Bookshop in Inverness, Scotland (click for link to website)

6. Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights (Bath) (click for link to website)

7. Richard Booth’s Bookshop (Hay-on-Wye) (click for link to website)

8. Waterstones Bradford (click for link to website)

9. Livraria Lello in Portugal (click for link to website)

10. Cărturești Carusel, Bucharest, Romania (click for link to website)

11. Boekhandel Dominicanen, Maastricht, Netherlands (click for link to website)

12. Any Barnes and Noble store in America.

I may have gone a bit overboard, my bookshop wishlist is huge!

Ooooo I love going to Hastings. I didn’t know there was a Waterstones there. I suppose it’s because I go to the Old Town bit – not that I have been up to the Old Town in ages, mainly along the front.

We seem to have a lot of bookstores. I have barely touched the surface it would seem!

I hope you get to come and visit soon. I doubt that I will be travelling for many years but it is good to dream!

Great list! I’m sad that I didn’t visit more bookstores when I lived in the UK (I was in Norwich and we had a few great small ones but I mostly went to Waterstones as well, lol). I want to visit the Hay-on-Wye, Maastricht and Bucharest stores as well!

That’s the thing isn’t it. Waterstones is the main chain and it is automatic to just go there – not that I don’t love it! The one in Tenterden is really cute and has a stone fireplace in the centre for example. I haven’t really visited many other bookshops – I need to sort myself out!!! They looked so good didn’t they?!

When you mentioned Cecil Court, it made me think of Portobello Road in the only Disney movie BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS. I have no idea if it’s fictional or not, lol. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I love that film and whenever anyone says Portobello Road that song automatically comes to mind! Portobello Road is real, as is the market – I have been there (singing the song in my head) 🙂 I didn’t see anyone dancing or singing but…

That’s awesome! I’d love to visit it someday. I’m also a huge fan of the movie and start singing the song in my head any time I hear it. 😀 I guess we’ll both be humming it today. LOL.

It is. There were a lot of stalls when I went, but I am not sure with Covid what it would be like now. It is definitely one of my favourite films so quite possibly! Maybe I will see if there is a youtube video of the song!!

We do have a lot of B&N stores in America! There’s one about 10 minutes away from me that I visit regularly. They’re not as charming as indie bookstores, but they have lots of books to browse and I can usually find what I’m looking for there. I hope you get to visit one someday!

    Happy TTT!

Wow! No that’s the thing with chain shops, but I think the Waterstones chain here does a good job. It doesn’t have the commercial feel to it.

Thank you. A bucket list wish!

As an American, I would love to visit any of the stores on your list! Someday I’ll make it to the UK. 🙂 We do have a lot of Barnes & Nobles here, but I don’t frequent them often. I prefer the more indie bookstores. I love the hunt for a good used book bargain. 😉

Yay! We have some beautiful places (as well as not so pleasant!) as well as quite a few quaint bookshops! I can understand that. Waterstones is our equivalent chain here, but the shops are in some lovely buildings and some of them have great coffee shops in them…they arent as cheap as Amazon though which is sad
