Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop! Hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer this week the prompt is:
Do you like writing short or long reviews? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)
I used to write short, brief reviews because everyone seemed to be writing long reviews and I wanted to just give a flavour of the book that I had read. I am also of the belief that time is precious and not everyone has the time to read through a long review.
When I started taking part in Blog Tours however, I felt that I had to make a more thorough review because they were being shared with publishers and I would be compared directly to other people. It was also at this time that I came up with the basic template for my reviews and I like to aim to write just under an A4 page. Some reviews end up longer than others, but never more than an A4 page. A short review for me would probably be just over half a page.
What about you?

Depends on the book and my current mood, but mostly between 400- 500 words 😊😊

I agree that a book that you have strong feelings about or is interesting in some way, will produce a longer review. 400-500 words is good. I don’t count the words, but aim for just under a page.

I think I probably do that for blog tours too, when I do them! 😂

I mostly write lengthier reviews (about 500 words, 3 minute read) but I’ve started experimenting with mini reviews so I can still review books even if I don’t have as much to say about them.

Sounds good. I tend to mini review for books less than 200 pages – usually the Kindle Freebie Cosy Mystery ones.

Mine are shorter–around 300 words.

It’s interesting to read what influenced the way people write. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

I agree ☺️ especially as I have only been doing it for a year and 4 months!

As a rule of thumb I write my reviews longer then my summary of the book. If that doesn’t work then I shorten my summary.

Sounds good 🙂 I don’t summarise the book as I worry that I might give stuff away or it will be too similar to the blurb.
