Book Blogger Hop – Do you use social media to keep up with your favourite authors?

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop! Hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer this week the prompt is:

Do you use social media to keep up with your favourite authors? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

Yes I do. I follow a few of them on Instagram and possibly a couple on Facebook. Instagram however is where I get most of my bookish news!

Sometimes I do come across new books out by accident though – at the beginning of this year Top Ten Tuesday asked what books I was excited about so I did some research and came across some new books by some of my favourite authors.

What about you?

Are there any new books you’re excited to read in 2023? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

When faced with this question earlier on in the year I did a bit of research and found a couple of books that I was quite excited about:

Love Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood (click for link to Goodreads)

Secretly Yours by Tessa Bailey (click for link to Goodreads)

Finlay Donovan Jumps The Gun by Elle Cosimano (click for link to Goodreads)

Thursday Murder Club 4 by Richard Osman (click for link to Goodreads)

What books would be on your list?

Book Blogger Hop – What was the first book you read this year?

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop! Hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer this week the prompt is:

What was the first book you read this year? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

My reading has taken a bit of a hit the last month or so, so I haven’t actually finished a book yet this year. I am however concentrating on trying to get my Blog Tour book Fallen Butterfly by Anna Nicholas (click for link to Goodreads) read:

Book Description From Goodreads:

“FALLEN BUTTERFLY is the third instalment in a gripping Mallorca-based crime series from Anna Nicholas, the most prolific British author writing about the island today.

The new book again features local protagonist, 33-year-old Isabel Flores Montserrat, an eccentric, fearless, lateral-thinking sleuth who has a pet ferret named Furó, and is addicted to sunflower seeds and Chupa Chups lollypops.

Unlike many female leads in popular crime fiction today, the Mallorcan former detective inspector is happy and balanced with few hang-ups. She loves her family and mountain community in the Soller valley, her pampered hens and her day job as a holiday rentals agent. Isabel believes in living for the moment and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Having turned her back on her old life as a policewoman in Barcelona, Madrid and Palma to run her widowed mother’s ailing mountain rentals agency in the Soller valley, Isabel finds herself being drawn back into detective work by her close friend and former boss, police chief Tolo Cabot. Having already assisted him with a cluster of puzzling island crimes, she is called upon again when Sebi Vives, the local transport minister, is found floating in the sea near Muro. He had increasingly infuriated local environmentalists, having approved a scheme to run a motorway through S’Albufera Natural Park that would destroy the natural fauna and flora and the habitat of thousands of birds. Environmentalists are blamed for the murder but Isabel Flores believes there is more to Sebi Vives’s death.

Meanwhile, close to her own mountain village, Sant Martí, foreign hikers are being misdirected by false cairns and signs in the Tramuntana hills, causing many to fall. Mischief is at work but who is to blame? Is it environmentalists or is something far more sinister at play?”

What was your first book of 2023?

Book Blogger Hop – Which time of day do you prefer to read: morning, afternoon, or evening?

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop! Hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer this week the prompt is:

Which time of day do you prefer to read: morning, afternoon, or evening? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I prefer to read of an evening. My partner is up with my son (before we swap over) so I have a few peaceful minutes. The only downside is that recently I have been really tired in the evening and have ended up falling asleep before much reading is done! I will occasionally read during the day, but I often don’t have a lot of time.

Do you have a favourite reading nook? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I read on the sofa with lots of pillows, cushions and blankets, so not really a nook, just a cosy place! I read mainly in the evening so I am surrounded by silence which is my preferred atmosphere when reading!

Do you go back and reread the previous book before starting the sequel? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I haven’t done before. I tend to read sequels fairly close together and if I don’t I have a pretty good memory as to what has happened. What will happen in the future I can’t say though as I am reading more than one book at a time these days, so the potential to get the muddled is higher.

Book Blogger Hop – Which print size do you prefer: small, medium, or large?

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop! Hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer this week the prompt is:

Which print size do you prefer: small, medium, or large? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer).

I prefer medium. Small takes me such a long time to get through and makes the book seem longer than it is. It intimidates me and sometimes has a bearing on whether or not I read the book – terrible I know, but. I have only ever had a larger print on my phone and that just meant that I was constantly flicking to get through to the next page.

Book Blogger Hop – Do you like writing short or long reviews?

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop! Hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer this week the prompt is:

Do you like writing short or long reviews? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I used to write short, brief reviews because everyone seemed to be writing long reviews and I wanted to just give a flavour of the book that I had read. I am also of the belief that time is precious and not everyone has the time to read through a long review.

When I started taking part in Blog Tours however, I felt that I had to make a more thorough review because they were being shared with publishers and I would be compared directly to other people. It was also at this time that I came up with the basic template for my reviews and I like to aim to write just under an A4 page. Some reviews end up longer than others, but never more than an A4 page. A short review for me would probably be just over half a page.

I personally prefer voracious reader. The nerd in book nerd just sounds negative.

I don’t mind being referred to as a Bookworm. Other languages express it differently; Library Mouse in Romanian, Ink Drinker in French, Reading Horse in Danish (click here for more!)

Book Blogger Hop – Do you watch film adaptations of books before reading them?

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop! Hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer this week the prompt is:

Do you watch film adaptations of books before reading them? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I don’t actively do this. I often find out that the film is based on a book after I have watched it, sometimes years after! I then make a note to read the book, but then life happens and I forget all about it until someone mentions it. Even then I don’t always get round to reading it!
