My Favourite Book Of April 2022 – Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Sutanto – #romance #romcom #mystery

Book Review – Four Aunties And A Wedding by Jesse Sutanto – #bookreview #romcom

Book Description From Goodreads:

“Meddy Chan has been to countless weddings, but she never imagined how her own would turn out. Now the day has arrived, and she can’t wait to marry her college sweetheart, Nathan. Instead of having Ma and the aunts cater to her wedding, Meddy wants them to enjoy the day as guests. As a compromise, they find the perfect wedding vendors: a Chinese-Indonesian family-run company just like theirs. Meddy is hesitant at first, but she hits it off right away with the wedding photographer, Staphanie, who reminds Meddy of herself, down to the unfortunately misspelled name.

Meddy realizes that is where their similarities end, however, when she overhears Staphanie talking about taking out a target. Horrified, Meddy can’t believe Staphanie and her family aren’t just like her own, they are The Family–actual mafia, and they’re using Meddy’s wedding as a chance to conduct shady business. Her aunties and mother won’t let Meddy’s wedding ceremony become a murder scene–over their dead bodies–and will do whatever it takes to save her special day, even if it means taking on the mafia.

The aunties are back, fiercer than ever and ready to handle any catastrophe–even the mafia–in this delightful and hilarious sequel by Jesse Q. Sutanto, author of Dial A for Aunties.

It was quite a hard choice to make this month, then I finished this one yesterday and I knew that this was the one! It was light, entertaining and actually made me laugh out loud! I highly recommend reading this book.

March Book Of The Month!

Book Review – The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Book Description From Goodreads:

“Between life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices . . . Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets?

A dazzling novel about all the choices that go into a life well lived, from the internationally bestselling author of Reasons to Stay Alive and How To Stop Time.

Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better?

In The Midnight Library, Matt Haig’s enchanting new novel, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision. Faced with the possibility of changing her life for a new one, following a different career, undoing old breakups, realizing her dreams of becoming a glaciologist; she must search within herself as she travels through the Midnight Library to decide what is truly fulfilling in life, and what makes it worth living in the first place.”

I have read a great mix of books this month and have enjoyed them all! I had quite a few 5 star reads again this month, but this one was the best for me out of those. I just didn’t want to put it down! I know that some people aren’t on board with it, but I absolutely loved it and highly recommend giving it a go!

Happy reading and here’s to April!

What Book Should I Have Read This Month? Book Of The Month

Book Review – The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

Book Description From Goodreads:

“As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn’t believe in lasting romantic relationships–but her best friend does, and that’s what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.

That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor–and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford’s reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive’s career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding… six-pack abs.

Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.”

I have had another great month for 5 star reads. Despite this, I thought that this book would easily be my book of the month as I was so taken by it. Alas no. I have to say that it was very nearly knocked off the top spot by The Silent Companion by Laura Purcell. It literally came down to which book would I read again. As The Silent Companion is a creepy book I decided that I probably wouldn’t read it again, whereas The Love Hypothesis I would have no problem re reading it. Please note that this decision is no slight on The Silent Companion though as it was so well written that it spooked me enough not to want to read it again! Both authors have inspired me to read more of their works.

Happy reading and here’s to February!

What Book Should I Have Read This Month? Book Of The Month

Book Review – Christmas at the Comfort Food Cafe by Debbie Johnson (click here for my review)

Book Description From Goodreads:

“Becca Fletcher has always hated Christmas but she has her reasons for being Little Miss Grinch. Now, though, she can’t avoid her version of ho-ho-hell – because she’s travelling to the Comfort Food Cafe to spend the festive season with her sister Laura and her family. She’s expecting mulled wine, 24-hour Christmas movie marathons and all kinds of very merry torture.

Little does Becca know that the Comfort Food Cafe is like no other place on earth. Perched on a snow-covered hill, it’s a place full of friendship where broken hearts can heal, new love can blossom and where Becca’s Christmas miracle really could happen – if only she can let it…”

I have read so many good books this month, but this one had the slight edge. I was really taken by it and have since read another book in the series! Next year I plan to read more of Debbie Johnson’s books.

Happy New Year and here’s to more great books!

What Book Should I Have Read This Month? Book Of The Month

Chasing The Darkness by Cassie Sanchez (click for the review)

Book Description From Goodreads:

“Pain is inescapable. Suffering is a choice.

Azrael, the Angel of Death, knows pain. The deaths of his mother and sister, as well as his harsh experiences in the Watch Guard at age twelve, have brutally shaped him into the most feared assassin in all of Pandaren. Azrael’s role as a Hunter requires him to search for those with magic, called Spectrals, which he is happy to do. Hunting allows him to pursue his true goal—exacting revenge on the Fire Spectral who altered the course of his life.

Azrael’s obsession with revenge and power leads him to undergo an experimental procedure that gives him magic, but when this procedure has unexpected and dangerous side effects, he becomes a liability to the Hunters and the Watch Guard. Rescued by the people he has sworn to eliminate, Azrael finds himself questioning everything he once believed as years of secrets and lies are exposed. His very nature is challenged as he battles unfamiliar emotions and navigates relationships that contradict the heart of a killer.

Can the Angel of Death have a conscience? Can Azrael?

Chasing the Darkness is an escape to a land of magic, sword fights, and love, with memorable characters who must face the darkness within and journey down a path of destruction or redemption.”

I read many good books this month, but this one stood out for me. It had everything you could want in it and had me gripped from the beginning!

What Book Should I Have Read This Month? Book Of The Month

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas

Book Description From Goodreads:

“Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she’s struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Worse, she can’t seem to move past the horrors of the war with Hybern and all she lost in it.

The one person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre’s Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta’s orbit. But her temper isn’t the only thing Cassian ignites. The fire between them is undeniable, and only burns hotter as they are forced into close quarters with each other.

Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the Continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts.

Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance-and healing-in each other’s arms.”

This month I have had so many 5 star reads that it was really hard to choose just one book of the month. In the end I had to choose this one as it was the most immersive. The characters, settings and storylines were all brilliant and I was sad when this book came to an end. I definitely recommend reading the whole ACOTAR series!

What Book Should I Have Read This Month? Book Of The Month

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas – Popular on Social Media

I have had some excellent books to read this month, which made it hard to choose just one. I eventually chose this book because I just couldn’t put it down and it was hard to find another book that engrossed me that much! It was also hard to start the next book without thinking back to this one.

I love the way that this whole series is written and whilst some of the characters traits can grate on me, their other traits make up for it! The settings are beautifully written and whilst it can get dark, you aren’t left feeling too upset.

I can’t wait to carry on reading the rest of the series!
