One Word Reviews For Books I Read In October

Welcome to my one word review post! This was inspired by a Top Ten Tuesday post that I took part in earlier in May. Not everyone has the time to read through a whole review, so I think that these one word reviews are an excellent way to get a book across to people in one word.

So that I capture all the books that I have read I have decided that at the end of each month I will do one word reviews for all the books that I have read in that month.

Here are the books that I read in October with links to my full review:

The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson

FRIENDSHIP

Count Your Hexes by Wendy Meadows

Top Ten Tuesday – Unlikable Characters You Can’t Help but Love

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week it is Unlikable Characters You Can’t Help but Love (These are villains, criminals, jerks, etc. that make you fall in love with them anyway, perhaps because they evolve by the end or they’re secretly wonderful and have been all along.) I found this quite hard, but finally managed to get a list of 10 (click titles for links to my reviews)!

Book Review – Chasing the Darkness by Cassie Sanchez – Azrael

Bad guy turned “good”.

Book Review – The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling – Rhys Penhallow

Hurt the main character’s feelings.

Random Things Tours – Book Review – What Child Is This? By Bonnie Macbird – Sherlock Holmes

Thinks that he is above everyone, but he uses his skills and knowledge to help people.

Random Things Tours – Book Review – Last Time We Met by Emily Houghton – Fin

Disappears from the other main character’s life without a word.

Book Review – Distant Stars by Kassandra Garrison – Will Rutledge

Does bad things in order to get by.

Random Things Blog Tour – Book Review – The Rabbit Factor by Antti Tuomainen – Henri Koskinen

Not a people person, but does his best for the employees that he has inherited from his brother.

Book Review – It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey – Piper

Quite self absorbed.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas – Rhysand

Portrayed as the bad guy until it is all explained in this book.

Fairest of All by Serena Valentino – The Wicked Queen

An interesting take on the Wicked Queen – you get to see another side to her.

The Beast Within by Serena Valentino – The Beast

The well known transformation to beast and then back again!

What characters are on your list?

Book of the Month – My Favourite Book Of October 2022

Book Review – The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

Book Description From Goodreads:

“Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.

Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.”

It was a very hard choice this month with Netgalley Book Review – Snowed In For Christmas by Sarah Morgan coming in a close second. There really was nothing in it – they were both excellent books!

Goodreads Monday (add your links in the comments section for all to see!) – Dreadfully Ever After by Steve Hockensmith

Welcome to the new home of Goodreads Monday! I have taken over the role of host from Lauren’s Page Turners who no longer blogs about books.

Goodreads Monday allows you to post about what books are on your “to read” lists, the progress you have made on your current books and reading challenge, and any other Goodreads news!

✨Don’t forget to add your link in the comments section so that we can all see each other’s posts!✨

The book that I have chosen this week is Dreadfully Ever After by Steve Hockensmith (click for link to Goodreads).

Book Description From Goodreads:

“When we last saw Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy at the end of the New York Times best seller Pride and Prejudice and Zombies they were preparing for a lifetime of wedded bliss. Yet the honeymoon has barely begun when poor Mr. Darcy is nipped by a rampaging dreadful. Elizabeth knows the only acceptable course of action is to promptly behead her husband (and then burn the corpse, just to be safe). But when she learns of a miracle antidote being developed in London, she realizes there may be one last chance to save her true love ? and for everyone to live happily ever after.
Complete with romance, heartbreak, martial arts, cannibalism, and an army of shambling corpses, Dreadfully Ever After brings the story of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to a thrilling conclusion.”

This has been on my shelf for a very long time. I read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and never got on to this one. It would make a good Halloween book – maybe next year!

Currently Reading (click for links to Goodreads):

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters

Havana Fever by Leonardo Padura

A Moment On The Lips At Christmas by J Taylor

Progress on my Reading Challenge:

I have read 95/97 books! The end is in sight!

October Halloween Challenge 2022 – Hosted by Tourmaline

Hosted by Tourmaline, there is a word set for each day that you can write a post about. As this is a book blog I will be posting about books that I have read that best fits the theme of the day.

Today’s theme is Party.

I have chosen this book because the front cover depicts an after party and there are quite a few parties that happen in the book!

Random Things Tours – Book Review – Just For Today by Nell Hudson

Book Description From Goodreads:

“The party has to end sometime

It all starts on New Year’s Eve. A night that has to be a success, whatever the cost. For Joni and her friends, it’ll be a party that promises all the high stakes and glamour of any other, but by sunrise they’ll be dealing with something darker than the usual post-party comedown.

Not that they let this stand in their way. For this is their year to revel in all that the playground of London has to offer: sneaking into places they shouldn’t, breaking every rule, falling in love with the wrong people. All the while avoiding one undeniable truth: it’s not if the party ends, it’s how.

JUST FOR TODAY is a bittersweet evocation of the end of innocence, and an exhilarating celebration of having nothing to lose – until suddenly, you do.”
