Six For Sunday

It’s Six For Sunday! Hosted by A Little But A Lot this week’s theme is magical bookish combinations. I have decided to answer this prompt by putting together two polar opposite books (one Thriller with one Romance) that would make an interesting combination:

The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley (click title for my review)

THRILLER / MYSTERY

Hook, Line and Sinker by Tessa Bailey (click title for my review)

ROMANCE

Kill Me Goodbye by A K Reynolds (click title for my review)

THRILLER

The Little Cafe in Copenhagen by Julie Caplin (click title for my review)

ROMANCE

The Rabbit Factor by Antti Tuomainen (click for link to my review)

CRIME/THRILLER

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood (click for link to my review)

ROMANCE

What polar opposite books would be on your list?

Six For Sunday

It’s Six For Sunday! Hosted by A Little But A Lot. There isn’t a theme posted as of yet so I have decided to chose a prompt from 8 April 2018 – favourite books this year so far. This was a tough one as I have read so many great books this year, however I have managed to get it down to 6! Click titles for my reviews:

Book Review – The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

Book Review – The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell

Book Review – The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman

Book Review – The Little Cafe in Copenhagen by Julie Caplin

Book Review – The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Book Review – It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey

Six For Sunday

It’s Six For Sunday! Hosted by A Little But A Lot, this week’s prompt is books to get people out of reading slumps. Whilst I have done one of these posts in the past (What Books Should I Read To Get Me Out Of A Reading Slump), I have since read some more excellent books so here is my updated version:

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn (click for my review)

Genre: Historical Fiction/Romance

Number of Pages: 354

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood (click for a review)

Genre: Romance

Number of Pages: 384

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas (click for my review)

Genre: Fantasy

Number of Pages: 432 (a fair amount, but worth it!)

Kill Me Goodbye by A K Reynolds (click title for my review)

Genre: Thriller

Number of Pages: 232

The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan (click for my review)

Genre: Christmas

Number of Pages: 288

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

Genre: Mystery

Number of Pages: 382

I have tried to do a couple of different genres, but I do seem to lean towards certain genres!

Six For Sunday

It’s Six For Sunday! Hosted by A Little But A Lot, this week’s prompt is stories you’d love a short story of. This is a tricky one as the books that I like have the necessary detail to make them what they are. This being the case, I am going to look at this prompt from the point of view of what I would like to read a simplified story of to my 3 year old son (click titles for the link to my review):

The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling (although he is currently being read the full series at bedtime!)

Picture from Goodreads

Skipping Christmas by John Grisham (even though it is fairly short as it is!)

Before Again by Claire S Duffy

The Threat Below by J S Latshaw

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy By Douglas Adams

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T J Klune

Six For Sunday

It’s Six For Sunday! Hosted by A Little But A Lot, this week’s prompt is favourite picture books. Luckily I have a toddler so I have been reading mainly picture books for the past 3 years!

Here is my list:

Spaghetti Hunters by Morag Hood (click for my review)

Animal Music by Julia Donaldson (click for my review)

Poppy and Sam’s Easter Egg Hunt

The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson (click for link to Goodreads)

The Tallest House on the Street (click for my review)

Teddy’s Night Lost In The Bush by Bruce Peardon

This was one of my favourites when I was a little girl. The pictures were all handpainted (according to my mum!) and are beautiful.

It’s Six For Sunday! Hosted by A Little But A Lot, this week’s prompt is favourite character arcs. I am not entirely sure what I would write for this, so I am concentrating on some of my favourite characters. Here are 6 characters that I have recently enjoyed reading about:

Olive Smith from The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

I loved her awkward persona that lead her into all sorts of difficulties! She needed to believe in herself more and I can certainly relate to that.

Carman from The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan

I loved the fact that even though her life wasn’t going in the direction that everyone expected of her (including herself), she was still able to hold her head up high and eventually achieve something that both she and everyone else could be proud of.

Meddelin Chan from Dial A For Aunties by Jesse Sutanto

I loved her humour and the scrapes that she got herself into. Things just seemed to happen around her that she couldn’t help or control.

Bridget Jones from Bridget Jones Diary by Helen Fielding

She is just an everyday person who you can relate to.

Joyce from The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

I love her kindness and her willingness for adventure. She follows Elizabeth’s lead with good humour and love.

Charlotte Gibson from Aloha Alibi by Jasmine Webb

A character who is just at the wrong place at the wrong time, yet manages to make the most of it and comes out stronger the other end.

It’s Six For Sunday! Hosted by A Little But A Lot, this week’s prompt is favourite opening chapters. This required a bit of research as it’s not something that I can instantly recall!
