What book should I read to my toddler? My toddler recommends…

The Adventures of Paddington – The Missing Marmalade Sandwich

Book Description From Goodreads:

“A charming lift-the-flap board book based on the animated TV series, The Adventures of Paddington!

Someone has taken Paddington’s marmalade sandwich! Can you follow the crumb trail with your finger, lift the flaps, and help him track down his emergency snack?”

This was a recent library book that my son has taken a liking to. It has been a while since he has connected with a book and asked me to read it to him again and again! It has also prompted him to start watching episodes of Paddington on the TV!

The story is fairly simple, but enjoyable and the pictures are bold and bright with flaps that have cute pictures behind. We highly recommend!

Toddler Library Loot

Welcome to my Library Loot post hosted by The Captive Reader and Real Life Reading. This week is a Toddler edition because the library books that I want are on hold!

Peppa Loves Doctors and Nurses

Book Description From Goodreads:

“Peppa loves doctors and nurses! In this adorable 8×8 storybook with a poster, she learns just what these heroes do. Based on the hit TV show, as seen on Nick Jr!

Doctor Brown Bear and Nurse Fox visit Peppa’s playgroup. They show the children how to be healthy, eat well, and wash their hands! This wonderful storybook comes with a special hand washing poster. The poster can be hung up by kitchen or bathroom sinks, or wherever you choose!”

Astromouse by Steve Smallman

Book Description From Goodreads:

When Pip the mouse learns that the moon is made of stinky cheese, he has a big idea—he’s going to be an Astromouse! Pip makes himself a rocket out of an old funnel and some cardboard, and prepares for take-off. But blasting to the moon is harder than he thought and things don’t go quite to plan.

A heartwarming story about the big dreams of a little mouse, this picture book is sure to delight and entertain.

Beautifully illustrated, QEB’s Storytime series introduces young children to the pleasures of reading and sharing stories. Featuring charming animal and human characters, the books explore important social and emotional themes like friendship, gratitude, perseverance, and overcoming fears. A Next Steps page at the back provides guidance for parents and teachers.”

We shall see if he takes to either of them. He personally picked Peppa Pig. I am not a fan of the television programme so he doesn’t get to watch it!

What book should I read to my toddler? My toddler recommends…

Baby Shark and the Colours in the Ocean by Pinkfong

Book Description From Goodreads:

“The colours have disappeared from Baby Shark’s photo book! Where could they be? Join Baby Shark on the search for them in this board book.

A fun way to learn colours with Baby Shark characters children know and love. The sturdy pages are perfect for little hands and the size is perfect for reading together again and again!”

We refound this book that was given to my son at Christmas and he hasn’t stopped requesting it! The pictures are bright and bold and at times the text is the same colour to which it is referring. Whilst it isn’t a rhyming book, it has a good flow and repeats phrases which is helpful.

We highly recommend!

Toddler’s Library Book – Not Yet Zebra

Not Yet Zebra by Lou Kuenzler and Julia Woolf (click for link to Goodreads)

Book Description From Goodreads:

“Annie said to the animals, “Please stand in a line.I’m painting my alphabet. Come one at a time! First Aardvark and Bear and Crocodile too. Not yet, Zebra. I’m not ready for you . . .”Annie wants to paint an alphabet using her animals, but Zebra simply can’t wait until the end for his time to shine. Sneakiness, silly costumes and plain pushiness doesn’t get him anywhere – but he has to learn to wait his turn!”

A couple of days ago we went to a library near my mum’s house and chose this book. My son loves the alphabet and this is a cute story that uses animals to go through the alphabet. The pictures are lovely and bright and the story itself is simple, yet entertaining. It isn’t a rhyming book, but still has a good flow to it. We shall be reading it over the weekend!

Happy reading everyone!

What book should I read to my toddler? My toddler recommends…

Poo Poo Bum Bum Wee Wee by Stephen Cowell and Erica Salcedo

Book Description On Goodreads:

Poo poo, bum bum, wee wee –
I sing my toilet song.
Poo poo, bum bum, wee wee –
I sing it all day long!

Encourage toddlers and young children to use the toilet confidently with this hilarious rhyming picture book!

Featuring bright, friendly illustrations and a very catchy rhyme, this fun picture book has been written in consultation with parents to break down all the stages of using the toilet into easy steps, from how to wipe to handwashing.

This book will help take the stress and worry out of toilet training, as children can sing the song and learn to use the toilet without fear or fuss!”

My toddler has really taken to this book. We had a selection from the library, but this is the only one that he has really connected with. It has short, repetitive, rhyming sentences that my son loves to repeat with me. The pictures are bright and engaging with sentences in different places throughout the book. I just hope that he learns to use the toilet soon!

World Book Day Book!

On Thursday we were given a World Book Day voucher at our local library, and today we cashed it in! This is the book that we chose. We will be saving it as an Easter present for our son so the review will come later!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Toddler Bookshopping! Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown

Book Description From Goodreads:

“In a great green room, tucked away in bed, is a little bunny. “Goodnight room, goodnight moon.” And to all the familiar things in the softly lit room — to the picture of the three little bears sitting on chairs, to the clocks and his socks, to the mittens and the kittens, to everything one by one — the little bunny says goodnight. In this classic of children’s literature, beloved by generations of readers and listeners, the quiet poetry of the words and the gentle, lulling illustrations combine to make a perfect book for the end of the day.”

After I had a trip to the Opticians, my son (and let’s be honest me) was treated by the Grandparents to a trip to Waterstones to look at the books. He came away with this classic.

The pictures are lovely and the story is sweet.
