Top Ten Tuesday – Books Set In… London

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week’s prompt is Books Set In. I have chosen London as according to my Reading List that seems to be a popular destination for me to read about! This is a complete coincidence (London is not too far away from where I live) as I usually focus my attention on trying to read different genres, so the setting is as it comes. Maybe next year I will try and go for different settings too…

Here is my list (click for links to my review):

THRILLER:

Random Things Tours – Book Review – The Weatherman by Royston Reeves

Book Review – The Killing Circle by Frank Malley (Book 3)

Library Book Review – The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell

Top Ten Tuesday – Reasons Why I’m Thankful for Books (In honour of Thanksgiving in the USA)

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week’s prompt is Reasons Why I’m Thankful for Books (In honour of Thanksgiving in the USA). This is a tough one. I love books, but 10 different reasons will take some thinking! Here are the results of that thinking:

❣️They allow you to escape the everyday.

❣️They give you different perspectives on life.

❣️They impart knowledge and wisdom (depending on the reading material of course!).

❣️They make great gifts.

❣️They are good conversation starters (depending on the group of people that you are with!).

❣️They can bring people together.

❣️They can start/change the course of your life.

❣️They give people a voice.

❣️They help to create memories (being read to as a child).

❣️They are fun!

What reasons are on your list?

Top Ten Tuesday – Mainstream Popular Authors that I Still Have Not Read

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week’s prompt is Mainstream Popular Authors that I Still Have Not Read (Submitted by Rissa).

This took a bit of research. There are so many popular authors that I haven’t read, so I based my list on authors that I have seen on Instagram a lot and then a few classics!

Popular On Instagram:

Colleen Hoover – I don’t have any plans to read her books, they just don’t sound like my sort of thing.

Taylor Jenkins Reid – I have Carrie Soto Is Back so hopefully some time soon!

Rebecca Yarros – Fourth Wing is on my Christmas list!

Jodi Picoult – I have been tempted to look at a couple of her books. Maybe one day…

Alice Oseman – I have seen Heartstopper around, but I have never read a graphic novel and don’t have any immediate plans to start. Pictures aren’t my thing. I like words – you know where you are with words!

Alice Hoffman – I really want to read one of her books – maybe next Autumn/Halloween.

Classic

Ian Fleming – maybe one day. I feel like I would like his books despite the fact that I have little interest in the films.

Margaret Atwood – I really do need to read one of her books.

David Baldacci – he was one of my Granddad’s favourite authors so I would like to make time to read one of his books.

John Le Carré – I want to read one of his books at some point, again another maybe one day!

What authors haven’t you read?

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell

The Imposter by Laura Bower

Top Ten Tuesday – Books with Weather Events in the Title/on the Cover

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday – Bookish Jobs

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week’s prompt is Bookish Jobs I Would Do For Free (Real or Imaginary) (Submitted by Susan @ Bloggin’ bout Books). I have decided to slightly alter this prompt and highlight books where the character works, or is involved with, books in some capacity (click the title for my review of the book).

📚That Festive Feeling by Heidi Swain – main character is an illustrator for Children’s books.

📚 Summer Wedding by Sarah Morgan – main character’s mum (and bride) is a romance author.

📚 Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett – main character is writing an Encyclopedia.

📚 A Bookshop Christmas by Rachel Burton – a story involving the family bookshop.

📚 The Cornish Cream Tea Bookshop by Cressida McLaughlin – main character gets a job in a bookshop.

📚 Havana Fever by Leonardo Padura – main character deals in antique books.

📚 Witch Way To Murder and Mayhem by Jane Hinchey – main character buys a bookshop.

📚 Good Taste by Caroline Scott – main character researches and writes a food book.

📚 The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman – main character works for The Invisible Library.

I didn’t realise how many book related books I have actually read! What books would be on your list?

Top Ten Tuesday – Reading Goals I Still Want to Accomplish Before the End of the Year

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week’s prompt is Reading Goals I Still Want to Accomplish Before the End of the Year (We’ve just begun the last quarter of the year! What bookish goals would you still like to accomplish? If you participated in TTT’s Bookish Goals for 2023 topic this past January, update us on which goals you’ve achieved, which you’ve given up on, and which ones you’re still working on!).

I had forgotten about this list so it was nice to re-find it! I haven’t done overly well, but a lot of that is because I haven’t been reading as much (due to losing my interest in reading throughout my pregnancy then having my son!).

Anyway, here are my eight January reading goals with my progress made underneath!

📚 To read at least 50 books this year – I managed to read over 100 last year, but I have had so many colds that my reading has taken a hit and I want to give myself a bit of a break – crazy talk I know!

I only have a couple of books to go before I reach this goal so I am pleased about that.

📚 Go on less Blog Tours. I love a Blog Tour, but it did end up being a bit much. I am going to do my best to stick to one Tour a month (after this month!!).

This was achieved until after I had my son and got more of my reading mojo back. October is looking to be especially busy!

📚I want to read more books on my shelf. I have so many books that I need to read and would like to focus on those this year.

So far this is a fail. I know we still have a few months left, but with the Blog Tours I have booked myself onto, the chances of getting through some of my TBR are small!

📚 I want to read at least the same number of library books, purely because I don’t want to stop using the library. It is such a valuable resource.

As I am reading less books this year this is a fail. Again as I have booked so many Blog Tours and had a couple of Netgalley approvals, library books have been overlooked.

📚 I want to continue reading various genres.

This has been happening, but with my reading less books overall I haven’t always hit my monthly genre target!

📚 I would like to try and read more translated books – this is probably where the Blog Tours will help – they have really helped vary my reading material!

This hasn’t happened for me yet this year. We shall see what happens in the last few months, but I think the chances are low.

📚 I would like to read more books based in different countries around the world – again Blog Tours have helped with this!

I have read a few books based in different countries this year, so I am going to mark this as complete!

📚 To do another buddy read with my sister and cousin – this has loosely been organised for the Summer, but we shall see.

As you know I had my son this Summer so this was postponed. I would still love to do one before the end of the year though!

Overall I have achieved 2/8 goals with 1 more about to be achieved. I’m not too bothered by this as reading for me is only a bit of fun and has had to take a backseat this year. Maybe next year!

What about you? Have you achieved your reading goals this year? Are you on target to?

Top Ten Tuesday – Secondary/Minor Characters Who Deserve Their Own Book

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week it is Secondary/Minor Characters Who Deserve Their Own Book. This has taken a bit of thought and perusal of my Goodreads list of books that I have read. Here is what I eventually came up with (click book titles for my review!)!

Susan “Suze” Cleath-Stuart

The best friend in The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

A very bad influence on the main character Becky and someone who has a lot of money. A great combination for a spin off book in my opinion!

Reynolds and Brimsley

Butlers in Queen Charlotte by Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes

I am very interested to know their back stories and how they move forward in the future.

Wendell Bambleby

Professor in Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

A faerie who has subtly used his powers to get to where he is today. I would like to know more about his journey!

John Watson

Sherlock’s sidekick in What Child Is This? By Bonnie Macbird

I would like to see his take on things and to get to know him and Mary better.

Sebastian Finlay

Chef and love interest in The Little Paris Patisserie by Julie Caplin

I want to see his side of the story.

Veronica

Nanny and sidekick in Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano

I want to know her background.

Aunties

The Aunties in Dial A For Aunties by Jesse Sutanto

A feisty group of women who I want to know more about!

Ron and Ibrahim

The other half of The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

The Thursday Murder Club mainly focuses on Elizabeth and Joyce so I want to know more about these two.

Arthur Parnassus

Professor in The House in the Cerulean Sea by T J Klune

He has obviously had a hard past and I want to know more.

What about you? Have you read any of these books and want to know more about the secondary characters?

*I know that there are a few more than 10 individual characters, but it sort of works!*
