World Book Day Book!

On Thursday we were given a World Book Day voucher at our local library, and today we cashed it in! This is the book that we chose. We will be saving it as an Easter present for our son so the review will come later!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Short Story – Mini Review – Buried by the Beach by Ellen Jacobson

💭THOUGHTS💭

I wanted a one sitting, short story to read for World Book Day and this one came up free on Amazon.

The writing was clear, light and enjoyable to read. There was a good pace to the book and had a good amount of detail, mystery and intrigue.

The characters were funny and had a good relationship with each other. It was nice to read about and brought some humour to the story.

The setting of a beach and the detective herself living on a boat was a lovely idea and would make it an ideal summer book to read.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and recommend it if you just want a one sitting read.

⭐Rated 4.5/5⭐

It’s World Book Day! Uplifting Quotes from Books

My son is dressing up as Harry Potter this year so here are a few quotes from the books:

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone

“I am what I am, an’ I’m not ashamed. ‘Never be ashamed,’ my ol’ dad used ter say, ‘there’s some who’ll hold it against you, but they’re not worth botherin’ with.” Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

“What’s comin’ will come, an’ we’ll meet it when it does.” Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

“But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I’m dressing up as Matilda this year so here are a few quotes from the book:

“The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives. She went on olden-day sailing ships with Joseph Conrad. She went to Africa with Ernest Hemingway and to India with Rudyard Kipling. She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village.”

“Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world”

“So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.”

“All the reading she had done had given her a view of life that they had never seen. If only they would read a little Dickens or Kipling they would soon discover there was more to life than cheating people and watching television.”

Happy World Book Day!
