Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week’s prompt is Mainstream Popular Authors that I Still Have Not Read (Submitted by Rissa).
This took a bit of research. There are so many popular authors that I haven’t read, so I based my list on authors that I have seen on Instagram a lot and then a few classics!
Popular On Instagram:
Colleen Hoover – I don’t have any plans to read her books, they just don’t sound like my sort of thing.
Taylor Jenkins Reid – I have Carrie Soto Is Back so hopefully some time soon!
Rebecca Yarros – Fourth Wing is on my Christmas list!
Jodi Picoult – I have been tempted to look at a couple of her books. Maybe one day…
Alice Oseman – I have seen Heartstopper around, but I have never read a graphic novel and don’t have any immediate plans to start. Pictures aren’t my thing. I like words – you know where you are with words!
Alice Hoffman – I really want to read one of her books – maybe next Autumn/Halloween.
Classic
Ian Fleming – maybe one day. I feel like I would like his books despite the fact that I have little interest in the films.
Margaret Atwood – I really do need to read one of her books.
David Baldacci – he was one of my Granddad’s favourite authors so I would like to make time to read one of his books.
John Le Carré – I want to read one of his books at some point, again another maybe one day!
What authors haven’t you read?

Oh too many to mention, I’m less focused now on which authors I haven’t read, because of the different genres I’m less interested in, than which countries have I not read?
I like read around the world and judge my year’s reading by how many countries I’ve visited through their literature. This year it’s going to be quite a few from Latin America thanks to a subscription with Charco Press.

I tend to go on the blurb of the book. I do like to try and book travel too. Taking part in Blog Tours has helped with that 😊

There must be loads of authors that I haven’t read but of the ones on your list, I haven’t read any Colleen Hoover or Alice Oseman and don’t think they really appeal to me. I have read at least one book by all of your other authors though.

It was hard to narrow down 😂 yeah Colleen Hoover doesn’t appeal to me and graphic novels look like hard work 😂

I haven’t read any of Colleen Hoover’s stuff either.
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

I have had a look at what the books are about, but they don’t seem like my sort of thing.

I’ve really enjoyed the first 4 authors you haven’t read.

I have a John LeCarr book on my TBR but I haven’t read him yet. I do like Margaret Atwood’s writing.
Authors I’ve never read

I thought I had a John Le Carré but now I’m not so sure and think that it’s just on my Goodreads want to read list 😂

My husband really enjoys David Baldacci’s books. I’ve only read one,.his Christmas one which is not written in his usual genre. I’m not too sure I’d be interested in his thrillers though. Hope you enjoy his writing when you get a chance to try it.

I love a Thriller so I might be alright?! I found out that I had similar reading tastes to my granddad fairly late on which was a shame in some ways. He was quite a reserved person.

I know what you mean. I was close to my grandmother, but she passed away when I was in my early 20’s and there are so many things I can think of now that I wish I had talked to her about and asked her about.

Granddad was full of secrets. We did try to get them out 🤣 he passed away a year and a half ago (in May), my gran the previous December. I saw them weekly until COVID hit. When I was still living at home and was little we used to see them a lot more, but when I moved out and had my son, weekly was all we could realistically fit in.

I’m sorry for your losses. Yeah they were a whole different generation and a lot of things they didn’t talk about, especially the war. I can’t think of anything covid actually improved.

Thank you. Yeah. And my family is so interesting – my mum is doing a family tree.
My oldest son was 2 when we went into lockdown so we were able to spend quality time with him 🤔

Unpopular opinion, but for me Heartstopper was fine, it was cute, but isn’t my style, i like it, cute, funny, realistic, likeable characters (4 stars) but i don’t want to read the rest of the series

If it wasn’t a graphic novel I would give it a go 😂 it’s a shame when you don’t want to read the rest of the series but life is too short to invest in a series that is meh.

Fabulous list – looks like your TBR is stacked! Similarly, I have no plans to read Hoover’s books either since I am generally not a fan of romances, but Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale is a great book. I have not read any other of her books, so I might not be the most credible source but her world-building is spectacular! Enjoy!

Thank you. So full!!
Sounds good. I have to admit that I haven’t even watched The Handmaid’s Tale on TV yet…

I read a Colleen Hoover book forever ago, over a decade now and didn’t love it and they just do not seem my thing at all, so I’ve no interest in trying any others. I adore Fourth Wing so I hope you enjoy that one! I also don’t really read graphic novels at all but I have enjoyed the Heartstopper volumes that I have read so far.

I’ve only read a couple of blubs and they don’t grab me.
I have seen that so many people love Fourth Wing so I hope that I can get it for Christmas and then get to read it!!
My concentration levels just won’t take reading pictures 😂

Love David Baldacci! I definitely recommend him. Colleen Hoover is hit or miss with me. Great list and thanks for visiting my TTT! 🙂

He does seem like an author that I would enjoy 😊 thank you. No problem 😁

Picoult is the only author I’ve read from your list. She used to be one of my favorite authors, but I actually haven’t read many of her newer books. Not sure why. They just haven’t seemed as appealing to me as her older ones. I hope you enjoy these authors when you get to them.
Happy TTT!

Taylor Jenkins Reid is excellent. I wouldn’t have expected her works as my style but I’ve gotten hooked especially on the audiobooks. 🙂

I’ve wanted to read them for ages but just haven’t found the time 😶

Margaret Atwood and Taylor Jenkins Reid were on my list this week too. Alice Oseman has done quite a few regular prose novels too, so maybe if you’re interested in her work but aren’t really a graphic novel person, then one of those might be worth checking out? Jodi Picoult is one of my favourite authors, though I do have to admit, I prefer her older stuff compared to some of her more recent stuff: if you’re looking for somewhere to start, the ones I always recommend most are: My Sister’s Keeper, The Pact, Nineteen Minutes or Plain Truth, those are my favourites of hers.

Graphic novels I have never considered. I can’t even read comics so I don’t think they are for me. I didn’t even think to look at whether she has done anything else!
I’ll have to have a look at those Picoult ones. I can’t do anything too sad though.
Have a great week!

Fair enough! Yeah she’s published four full length novels and I think a couple of novellas so if you want to try her stuff. there are other options than just the graphic novels.
Hmm, that could be tricky, a lot of her novels can get quite sad!

I’ll have to keep a note of that!
I just need to avoid sad ones. Once I start crying that’s it and it often ends in a headache. Weird I know!

Tried and tested. It’s a nightmare when a sad moment suddenly happens – A Court of Frost and Starlight was a bad one 🙄 that made me quite upset.

I tried one Colleen Hoover book and it wasn’t for me so I have no intention of trying more. I did read and love Taylor Jenkins Reid, Rebecca Yarros and Alice Oseman!

Excellent. After seeing Colleen Hoover everywhere the past few years I thought that I was in the minority for not reading her stuff but actually it’s a bit of a mixed bag!

I’ve only one Taylor Jenkins Reid (Evelyn Hugo) but it was one of my all-time favourites.

That is on my list, but I actually got a signed Carrie Soto Is Back for Christmas last year so will be trying that one first

I’m definitely not great with keeping up with super popular authors who’ve gained quite a following on social media. Taylor Jenkins Reid is an author that I was kind of interested in previously, but can’t see myself reaching for her now. Hope you enjoy any of these you decide to pick up.

I always like to see what’s popular (well on Instagram), but if the blub doesn’t grab me then I won’t make it a priority to read!
Thank you 😊

Alice Hoffman and Margaret Atwood are both such incredible writers – Hoffman can build a wonderful story, and Atwood is just one of those modern day classics that everyone should read at least once.

Hoffman is high on my list, Atwood slightly lower. I just need to find more reading time 🤣

I’m a huge Hoffman fan.

Yeah, Hoover is a mixed bag for me, I’ve enjoyed some but not others. I’ve enjoyed most of Reid’s books, except I wasn’t a big fan of Daisy Jones or Evelyn Hugo. I actually adore Oseman, and I’m not a big graphic novels reader, either. I’ve only read The Handmaid’s Tale by Attwood, but I’d recommend it! Happy reading!

I briefly considered looking at Verity then decided against it.
Ooo they are the two big ones. I keep meaning to try both, but I my head got turned by a signed Carrie Soto Is Back. I just need to find time to read it!
I would like to read The Handmaid’s Tale. I haven’t even seen it on TV though.
Happy reading too!
