Stacking The Shelves

Welcome to my Stacking The Shelves post hosted by Reading Reality! This week I have signed up for one Blog Tour and received two books in the post:

Blog Tour Sign Up:

Death At Chelsea by Anna Sayburn Lane (click for link to Goodreads)

Book Description From Goodreads:

The prettiest flowers can be deadly…

Detective duo Mrs Jameson and Marjorie Swallow are called to investigate when a renowned garden designer suspects that someone is sabotaging her priceless Himalayan Sapphire Lilies, ahead of the 1923 Chelsea Flower Show.

But soon it’s not just the flowers that are dying. Rival gardeners, intrepid plant hunters and even King George V himself are caught up in a poisonous bouquet with its roots deep in the mountains of Tibet.

The third in the Marjorie Swallow 1920s murder mystery series requires all her wit, charm and pluck to solve.”

I am on the Blog Tour for this book on 9 July so keep your eyes peeled for my review!

Book Mail:

Second Chance Summer by Phillippa Ashley

Book Description From Amazon:

“From the moment Lily Harper arrives at a remote retreat on the breath-taking Scilly Isles, she is itching to get back to civilisation – and her thriving business.

Slowing down simply isn’t in her vocabulary, and so she quickly clashes with the gorgeous but dour Sam who runs the retreat.

Just as Lily is about to give up and leave, disaster strikes, and she is involved in an incident that changes her perspective on everything.

Lily is no longer sure she wants to return to the life she thought she loved. But will she have the courage to give the retreat, and Sam, a second chance?”

I am on the Blog Tour for this book on 3 July so keep your eyes peeled for my review!

Killing Dylan by Alastair Puddick (click for link to Goodreads)

Book Description From Goodreads:

“Someone is trying to kill celebrated author Dylan St James. But who would want him dead? And why? And who the hell shoots someone with a harpoon, anyway?

Disgruntled, failed crime writer, Freddie Winters, spends his days conning old ladies, setting up fake book signings, sneaking into literary festivals uninvited and lamenting his lack of success. When his old Friend, Dylan, turns to him for help, Freddie agrees to use his own limited detective skills to find out who’s behind the murder attempt.

With a group of suspicious ex-wives, a jealous rival, a crazed stalker fan and an exploding postman to deal with, Freddie soon stumbles upon a catalogue of crazy behaviour and a truly bizarre motive for murder. But can he stop the killer before it’s too late?”

I was on the Blog Tour for the second book in the Freddie Winters series (Random Things Blog Tour – Book Review – Murder All Inclusive by Alastair Puddick) and enjoyed it so much that I decided to get this, the first book in the series.

What have you been stacking your shelves with this week?

20 Books of Summer Challenge #20booksofsummer24

As you know I like to try and be fairly casual in my reading. I do the Goodreads Challenge (I put down a fairly low number based on past reading) and I set myself genre goals each month that I may or may not achieve. My one downfall that can disrupt the casual nature of my reading is the number of Blog Tours that I do each month. I do love taking part in them! This has meant that my own books have taken a back seat. When I saw this challenge being spoken about on The Chocolate Lady’s Book Review Blog I knew that this was my chance to try and sort out my TBR!

So without further ado here is my post to declare that I will be taking part in 20 Books of Summer hosted by Cathy @ 746 Books. This challenge will take place between 1 June – 1 September.

Keep your eyes peeled for everyone’s 20 Books of Summer Reviews #20booksofsummer24

I have started off low and put myself down for 10 books:

The Last Devil To Die by Richard Osman

Before The Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center

The Department of Rare Books and Special Collections by Eva Jurczyk

Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead by Elle Cosimano

The World According To Kaleb by Kaleb Cooper

The Scarecrow and his Servant by Philip Pullman

The Firework Maker’s Daughter by Philip Pullman

A Caribbean Mystery by Agatha Christie

Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie

Hopefully I will get these read!

First Line Friday – The Secret Life of an Uncool Mum by Serena Terry

It’s First Line Friday! Hosted by Reading Is My Superpower, you write the first line of the book you are currently reading.

I am currently reading The Secret Life of an Uncool Mum by Serena Terry from the Library (on my Libby app).

Book Description From Goodreads:

From the creator of viral Tiktok sensation, Mammy Banter, comes a hilarious warts-and-all novel about modern motherhood – and how having it all sometimes isn’t what you think it might be.

She used to want it all.

Now she just wants a nap.

Tara Gallagher is knackered. She used to dream of being Beyoncé but suddenly she’s thirty-six – with three kids, a loving husband, a very boring job – and instead of headlining Coachella, she’s in her pyjamas on a Friday night, watching cheesy TV.

It’s time for a mommy makeover. She’s going to show her teenage daughter she’s still cool. She’s going to show her husband she’s still an absolute ride. She’s going to show her colleagues she’s still a Boss Bish.

But most of all, she’s going to prove to herself that she can still be a mom, still work full time, and still be Beyoncé…”

FIRST LINE:

“That’s Not Nutella

Everything is perfect. My house is perfect. My life is perfect. My children are perfect. My heart is full and at peace. Which can only mean one thing: the s**t is about to hit the fan.”

Would you carry on reading?

I am not very far into this book, but so far it is light and entertaining!

Book Blogger Hop – A Book Collector or a Book Hoarder

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop! Hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer this week the prompt is:

Do you consider yourself a book collector or a book hoarder? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

This is probably cheating, but both. I collect books then never get rid of them. I try to get a mix of Kindle and physical to save on space, plus I borrow books from the library.

We have bookshelves and bookcases all over the house. The only room that doesn’t officially contain books is the bathroom. It isn’t just my books either. My eldest son has a lot of books too, so there are always books just randomly spread about.

What about you?

Time Travel Thursday

It’s Time Travel Thursday! Hosted by me, this is where you get to relive all those bookish memories! Take a look back at what you were reading this time last year (or the year before or the year before that…) and compare it to what you are reading now!

This time last year I was reading:

Library Book Review – Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins

Currently I am reading:

Hattie Brings The House Down by Patrick Gleeson (click for link to Goodreads)

The Secret Life of an Uncool Mum by Serena Terry (click for link to Goodreads)

Neither of these are remotely like Her Royal Highness. Her Royal Highness is a YA Romance whereas Hattie Brings The House Down is a cosy mystery and The Secret Life of an Uncool Mum is contemporary humour. It is interesting to see how different my reading was this time last year, especially as I was in a reading slump and 7 months pregnant!

What were you reading this time last year?

Top Ten Tuesday – Book Quotes

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week’s prompt is:

Favourite Book Quotes (You can pick your favourite quotes from books, or about books! You can set a theme like quotes from books about love, friendship, hope, etc. or you can just share quotes you loved from your recent reads!)

This is a tough one for me as I don’t keep a note of quotes. I enjoy the books at the time then move on. I have therefore had to do a bit of research for this one.

First of all, here are some past posts containing quotes:

Top Ten Tuesday – Book Quote Freebie – Quotes that made me smile

It’s World Book Day! Uplifting Quotes from Books

What is your favourite book quote?

After having a look around, I found that there were so many quotes that I loved from just two books that I decided to do five quotes from each:

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (click for link to my review). Quotes taken from Goodreads:

“If you aim to be something you are not, you will always fail. Aim to be you.”

“Never underestimate the big importance of small things”

“It is quite a revelation to discover that the place you wanted to escape to is the exact same place you escaped from. That the prison wasn’t the place, but the perspective.”

“You can have everything and feel nothing.”

“So long as there are still books on the shelves, you are never trapped. Every book is a potential escape.”

In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune (click for link to my review). Quotes taken from Goodreads:

“Forgiving others could be difficult, but forgiving yourself can sometimes feel impossible.”

“Humanity is awful, angry, and violent. But we are also magical and musical. We dance. We sing. We create. We live and laugh and rage and cry and despair and hope. We are a bundle of contradictions without rhyme or reason. And there is no one like us in all the universe.”

“Happiness comes not from bodily pleasures or wealth or power, but from living a life that’s right for your soul.”

“You were made to bring happiness. You are alive in ways we are not. You are soft and fragile. But you are complex and disturbing and sometimes foolishly brilliant.”

“Your brain is telling you that you can’t, but you don’t always have to listen to it.”

What are some of your favourite quotes?

✨Don’t forget to add your link in the comments section so that we can all see each other’s posts!✨

The book that I have chosen this week is Listen For The Lie by Amy Tintera

Book Description From Goodreads:

What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn’t matter?

After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast “Listen for the Lie,” and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it.”

This was a popular book on my Bookstagram Feed a couple of months ago, and having just missed out on a Netgalley copy, I decided to add it to my Goodreads list!
