Top Ten Tuesday – Reasons Why I’m Thankful for Books (In honour of Thanksgiving in the USA)

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week’s prompt is Reasons Why I’m Thankful for Books (In honour of Thanksgiving in the USA). This is a tough one. I love books, but 10 different reasons will take some thinking! Here are the results of that thinking:

❣️They allow you to escape the everyday.

❣️They give you different perspectives on life.

❣️They impart knowledge and wisdom (depending on the reading material of course!).

❣️They make great gifts.

❣️They are good conversation starters (depending on the group of people that you are with!).

❣️They can bring people together.

❣️They can start/change the course of your life.

❣️They give people a voice.

❣️They help to create memories (being read to as a child).

❣️They are fun!

What reasons are on your list?

Great reasons! I love them all. I’ve had great conversations with all kinds of people – my doctors, strangers, neighbors, other people sitting in waiting rooms, etc. because of books. “What are you reading?” is a great question to start a conversation!

BTW: I mentioned you in my list today 🙂

    Happy TTT!

I love all of these reasons! Some of my earliest memories are of being read to as a kid, and of carrying my favorite book around everywhere. And they are the absolute best way to escape when everyday life becomes too much … or when it isn’t enough 😂 Sorry for the late visit, but I’m American, so it’s been a bit of a hectic week over here. Enjoy your weekend!

No need to apologise at all! I hope you had a lovely time. Over Christmas if I so much as look at my phone in front of others there are comments (and when I say Christmas that starts on Christmas Eve through to at least the day after Boxing Day!) 😂

I don’t celebrate Christmas, since we’re Jewish, but in the last few years, we’ve shifted from hosting to going to my brother’s house. My sister-in-law is a fantastic cook, and it gives the blended family a chance to catch up. There’s a huge parade in NYC that’s televised, so we watched that in the background, and then had an early dinner and just relaxed, but it was such a nice time.

😂 that’s good. I hear of people travelling miles. My mum lives a 15 min drive away, my dad 30 mins and my sister 1 hour 30. But then the UK is a fairly small Island in comparison to some places!

He’s about a half hour away, not too bad. The rest of my family is pretty spread out though – we have to fly to see most of them! I heard something cool that completely makes sense: people from America think 100 years is a long time, people from the UK think 100 miles is a long distance 😂

😂 100 miles is a long distance 😂 my sister lives an hour and a half/ 2 hours away and we rarely go there because of the distance. Mainly because our son isn’t really one for the car and we now have a 4 month old but still 😂 I can’t imagine having to actually fly to places 😂

Well, it’s really different traveling with kids! But to us, 100 miles is nothing. Where I went to college was a 4 hour drive away, and I would come home every month or two to visit with family, do laundry, and get that good home-cooked food. Most of my family lives a plane ride away!

OMG bahahahahahahaha here it’s definitely a bit of a different mindset. It’s an hour drive to NYC from where I am, and that’s on a good day, but we’ve gone just for a doctor appointment or to go for a show or shopping!

Unacceptable travel time 🤣😂 if we get stuck in traffic shopping then that’s a bit different but we wouldn’t do it on purpose 🤣 when I lived with my mum I could walk into town in 45 mins – drive it in 15 (with no traffic!!). Our Drs was in the next Village so that was again a 15 min drive away 😂

Depending on where we go shopping up to 45 mins 🤣

Everything we need is really within a 15 minute ride where I am, but if we want to get fancy, we can always go to the city. But as I’ve gotten older, it takes more out of my to schlep to Manhattan.

That’s not too bad. Hmmm nearest City to me is Rochester. We call any place that has a Cathedral a City so it’s only small 🤣 London otherwise is nearest us as the Capital City. We have shops and that fairly near us. We are fairly rural as a place though.

I imagine Manhattan to be big. I’ll have to Google it – little village UK person that I am 😂🤣 our towns are sad. Shops are closing down all the time. The only thing that really survives is a coffee shop. We do love those!!

Oh that’s sad. We have some really cute shops it’s just they are in-between closed, empty ones 😔

Haha that’s a nice image. A lot of people drink coffee (well lattes, cappuccinos that sort of thing 😂). Maybe it’s why only coffee shops are the main survivors. People get takeaway drinks on the way to work and lunch too. London places suffered a bit when people worked from home because they were no longer being visited.

We have a joke here that there are more potholes than road. It’s awful. Our roads are small but well used. I suppose it’s the fact that households often have more than one car.
