Top Ten Tuesday – Bookish Goals For 2024

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, this week’s prompt is Bookish Goals For 2024. I struggled with this prompt last year and got to 8 goals. This year I have made it to 9 goals!

Goals from 2023 and whether I achieved them:

1. To read at least 50 books.

I managed to read 81.

2. Go on less Blog Tours.

In 2022 I took part in 48 Blog Tours. In 2023 I took part in 29 Blog Tours, so this goal was achieved.

3. I want to read more books on my shelf.

I read 10 of my own books out of the 105 I read in 2022 (9.5%) and 7 of my own out of 81 in 2023 (8.6%). Not achieved and overall pretty poor numbers over both years!

4. I want to read at least the same number of library books.

I read 17 in 2022 and 17 in 2023. Pure luck that this happened!

5. I want to continue reading various genres.

I read 12 different genres in both 2022 and 2023.

6. I would like to try and read more translated books.

I read 2 in 2022 (Cuban and Japanese) and 1 in 2023 (Norwegian).

7. I would like to read more books based in different countries around the world.

At the end of each month I have a list of where my books have taken me and I always seem to have a good amount of different places. Maybe this year I will include a Book Places post in my End Of Year Wrap Up with all of the book places that I have been to.

8. To do another buddy read with my sister and cousin

Achieved – Buddy Read Book Review – The Christie Affair by Nina De Gramont in 2022 and Buddy Read – Library Book Review – Enola Holmes and The Case of the Missing Marquess by Nancy Springer in 2023. We are currently in discussion about what to do for this year.

I think that 2023 was a pretty successful year overall.

Here are my goals for 2024:

1. To read 85 books.

2. To go on slightly less Blog Tours so that I can read more of the books that I already own.

3. To read more of my own books.

4. To read a similar number of library books (need to keep those libraries open!).

5. To read a variety of different genres – 12 seems like a good number!

6. To read some more translated works.

7. To read more books set in different countries.

8. To do a buddy read with my sister and cousin.

9. To watch a couple of films/series based on books.

I enjoy Buddy Reads too but I don’t think I’m ready to do it with people outside my family 😂 I think it would put too much pressure on me 😂

Same. And I only heard of them because I was on the Blog Tour for them.

I love the idea of reading more translated books. And good luck with reading stories in different countries, I also do that challenge and it’s one that I love, my brother helps me choose new places and he doesn’t always make it easy for me.

Last year I read three translated novels (not including the four manga), two were German and one was Icelandic. I adored them!

One thing I did last year to see where I traveled through my reading was make a map using Google Maps. I hope to make a post about it in the coming weeks. It was fun seeing the map fill in, and eye opening to see how many were set in the same areas. This year I hope to spread things out more!

Translated works are fun. I read a Norwegian mystery last year. The year before was a Japanese mystery and a Cuban mystery.

Oooo Google Maps. I’ll have to keep an eye out. I found a website that allowed me to pin where I had read. I haven’t posted it in case of copyright (?) laws.

I’m glad I am not the only one who had eight goals last year and nine this year. LOL You did great last year! I really like your goals for this year. “To read more books set in different countries” is a good one and I like the idea of watching a couple of films/series based on books. Something for me to keep in mind for next year . . . Good luck on your goals! You are going to have a great reading year. I can tell!

😂 I do struggle to think of goals 😂

Thank you. I hope so! I would love to make a dent in my TBR but I also want to go to the library and to read all the new books coming out 😂🤣

Same! I need to read more of my own books, although I still plan to use my library frequently. It’s definitely important to keep them open. It was tough during the first part of COVID lockdown when my libraries were closed. I don’t want that to ever happen again!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
